Even when they were together, Ryan always brought the conversation back to her. He took her calls immediately. He worried about her constantly. It was clear his life centered on her.
In the end, Olivia couldn’t stand it and chose to break up with him, using studying abroad as her excuse. What she hadn’t expected was his reaction. He didn’t argue or ask her to stay — he simply said alright, since he was on his way to pick Kailey up from school.
Back then, Kailey had been cherished like that. So how could she sit there so calmly now, after hearing that everything might not have been what it seemed?

“While I had nothing to do, I wrote an article and scheduled it to be published. I was planning to delete it once I found Ryan.” Olivia smiled strangely, her eyes filled with something unsteady. “What a pity. It can’t be deleted anymore. By tomorrow, the entire internet will be talking about you and Ryan — the supposed uncle and niece p>
She didn’t finish the sentence, but her expression made her meaning obvious.

Kailey had braced herself for many things. Even so, she couldn’t stop herself. She stepped forward and slapped Olivia across the face.
Olivia’s head snapped to the side and stayed that way, motionless.
Kailey no longer wanted to waste another word. She drew in a breath and looked down at her. “There’s nothing wrong with loving someone. But you — you can’t tell right from wrong. You cling to your own twisted logic. That’s why you’re pitiful p>
She turned and walked out without looking back. Olivia shouted something after her, but the door shut and cut the sound off completely.
Outside, Kyson noticed her pale expression at once and stepped closer, taking her hand.
She looked up at him. “Is there any trending news today p>
There was a slight tremor in her voice. He didn’t catch it at first and was about to ask what she meant when she spoke again, her tone heavier than before. “Check your phone. See if there’s any news p>
Glancing down at his phone, Kyson found every major platform conspicuously quiet, nothing out of the ordinary surfacing anywhere. Warm fingers closed around Kailey’s icy ones as he turned the screen toward her. “Nothing’s come up p>
Only after verifying it for herself did the tightness in her face begin to ease. She whispered, “It’s fine. Let’s go.” Most likely, Olivia had only been trying to scare her.
Just as they were about to leave, the silhouette of someone approaching from a short distance made Kailey halt once more.
Having just wrapped up Olivia’s paperwork, Ryan knew that with how firmly Kyson and Kailey had responded, legal repercussions were almost unavoidable. Since Olivia had no immediate family nearby and he was still her boyfriend, cutting her off entirely would look cruel.
