He didn’t think Merritt had done this personally, but saying he had nothing to do with it didn’t sit right either. The earlier note in Merritt’s handwriting had warned Kailey not to marry him — they had gone through with the wedding anyway, and nothing happened. Now someone was pushing her to divorce him. The goal was obvious: they wanted Kailey away from him.
Who would gain from that? Ryan?
Kyson’s brows drew together at the thought, but he dismissed it soon after. Ryan had always acted openly. If he wanted to interfere, he would have shown up at the wedding himself — he wouldn’t hide behind anonymous notes.
After thinking it through for a long while and getting nowhere, Kyson came to one conclusion: whoever was behind this didn’t plan to hurt Kailey. He leaned back in his chair and let out a long breath. Having a wife who drew too much attention wasn’t always a blessing.

Kailey glanced at the busy entrance and shook her head. “It’s fine. You should head back and stay with Kyson.” Without waiting for him to argue, she turned toward the elevator.
Even though she had refused his offer, tension still sat heavy in her chest. Only after she stepped inside the building and the doors closed behind her did she finally let out a deep breath.
When she looked toward the lounge area, she froze.
Benny sat there as if he owned the place, a neat row of snacks lined up in front of him. She couldn’t tell whether he had brought them himself or had the reception order them, but he hadn’t touched any of it. His cap was turned backward, loose strands of hair falling near his forehead, arms crossed, wearing a look that mixed innocence with defiance.
Kailey clenched her jaw and decided to ignore him. She walked straight toward her office.

“I actually care about Kyson. You don’t. You’re just keeping him around as a backup plan.” When Benny saw her freeze, his sarcasm deepened. “I warned you before. You’re going to hurt him p>
At first, Kailey had been genuinely irritated, yet after hearing Benny speak, she found herself calming down instead. She moved to sit beside him, and the sunlight streaming through the window outlined her profile, illuminating the fine hairs along her cheek.
“Explain it to me. In what way am I going to hurt Kyson?” she asked.
