The elevator chimed as it reached their floor. When the doors opened, Benny stood at the end of the hallway watching them in silence, his expression cold.
Even though nothing serious had happened, Kailey still felt awkward being caught like that. She forced a small laugh. “Well — this place is actually really good. You should try it. You might end up liking it p>
Benny scoffed. “Stop smiling like that. It looks terrible p>
When he shifted his eyes to Kyson, a brooding look settled in them. “I wasn’t trying to target her p>
Kailey almost burst out laughing.
They went inside and sat down to order. Benny’s picky side showed up immediately. He rejected one dish, then dismissed another, and it took him nearly twenty minutes just to settle on what he wanted. “And make sure there are no chestnuts in the soup. I’m allergic.” He handed the tablet back to the server without another word.

“Yeah. Got a problem with that p>
She just found it odd. She’d had the same allergy since childhood. Doctors had once said she might grow out of it, but she never did.
Kyson had been scrolling through emails on his phone. At their exchange, he lifted his head and looked at them thoughtfully.
They were about the same age. Both allergic to chestnuts. Even their tempers had a similar sharp edge. And their faces —
His eyes darkened slightly, as if a quiet realization had brushed past the edge of his mind.
After dinner, Quentin called, and Benny left in a hurry. Once his figure disappeared, Kailey finally let out a long breath. “I really don’t get it. How can someone be that annoying?” Even during the meal, Benny had acted as though he were competing with her over every little thing.

She sighed. “Feelings change fast. Maybe I’ll start hating him tomorrow p>
He glanced at her for a moment, amused by her expression. “Don’t you think you two are a bit alike p>
“Me?” Kailey tapped her own chest. “You’re saying I look like Benny? That’s impossible. I’m way more dependable than he is p>
Kyson only smiled and let the subject drop.
He hadn’t meant their tempers. What caught his attention were their features. At a glance, they looked completely different. But the more he looked, the clearer it became — the shape of their eyes, the curve of their mouths. The resemblance was subtle, yet hard to ignore once noticed.
Still, there were things he hadn’t confirmed. And until he had answers, there was no reason to bring it up.
The two of them wandered through the mall without rushing. Just as they were preparing to leave, Kailey’s phone rang. It was the police station. Olivia wanted to meet Kailey.
