Kailey walked over without expression. When she opened it, the diamond jewelry set from the auction sparkled under the light — the stones flawless, obviously rare, obviously valuable. She shut the lid at once. “When he comes back, return it to him. I don’t need it p>
She went upstairs without another glance.

The bodyguard watched her leave with a slight frown. Lyman might appear detached, but anyone with eyes could see he was serious about her. Why couldn’t she see it? Still, it wasn’t their place to comment. With a quiet sigh, the bodyguard put the box away.
Life settled back into routine. Kailey resumed her quiet days — eating, sleeping, walking Max around the yard. Lyman’s trip lasted longer than usual, long enough that she almost forgot she was being kept here because of him.
Evenings stretched later as the days passed. At seven o’clock, the sky still held the last traces of light.
Just as Kailey was about to step inside, a flicker of movement beyond the courtyard wall caught her eye.

“I said go yourself,” Kailey snapped, impatience clear in her voice. “Delivery takes too long. Come straight back p>

The rest of the guards were positioned at different points around the villa. Kailey had made it clear she disliked unfamiliar faces hovering nearby, so no one dared stay too close.
Her eyes stayed fixed on the outer wall. The shadow crept along it little by little, and she shifted her position to keep it in sight.
The person finally made it inside.
A crease formed between her brows. She hesitated, weighing whether to call out for help.
Then, for just an instant, a face flashed into view.
The villa was spacious, but Lyman hated dealing with unnecessary upkeep, so he kept most of the rooms shut and unused. The only space he truly cared about was the basement, which he had converted into a massive wine cellar and filled with bottles from every corner of the world.
Anyone stepping inside for the first time could lose their sense of direction within minutes.
After wandering through hallway after hallway, Benny finally pushed open a door and stepped into the wine cellar.
