Warm color touched Kailey’s cheeks, and she whispered to herself, “What a charmer.” She climbed out of bed, washed up, and made her way downstairs, where sunlight pooled near the doorway around Karol’s chair.

Kailey thanked her and took a seat at the dining table. Karol leaned closer and said, “Kailey, Kyson’s birthday is approaching. Would you like to give him a surprise p>

“Like…” Karol hesitated, her smile turning sheepish as a light chuckle slipped out. “Well, there are certain things I probably shouldn’t be the one bringing up. It’s a little mortifying p>
Kailey nearly sputtered on a mouthful of milk, coughing lightly. “Karol, we haven’t done anything like that p>
