In the glow of the monitors, her keen gaze moved from one feed to the next before settling on two figures. Both men looked woefully unprepared, each gripping only a flashlight, while one had an axe and a short pick strapped awkwardly across his back.

Kyson lounged closer, his arm settling loosely across her shoulders. “Creeping up a mountain in the dead of night — looks like your uncle doesn’t know where the thing is.” Whatever lay hidden out there was clearly something he never wanted Kailey stumbling across.
Money? Lionel could hand over thirty million without blinking, so what amount could possibly justify a gamble this reckless? And the barren slope hardly resembled a stash site for cash; aside from that small house, nothing but untamed brush and jagged rock stretched in every direction. Surely no one would bury it underground — would they?
