A rush of tangled emotions hit Kyson all at once. He had been there the entire time, standing upstairs and quietly watching Kailey and Karol work in the garden, laughing and talking with ease. Seeing how natural and animated they were together had made it hard for him to step in. Because of that, he had stayed hidden in his study, acting busy while secretly waiting for one of them to invite him. Only now did he realize neither of them had any idea he was even in the house.

Amusement briefly flashed through Kyson’s eyes before he turned and walked down the steps.
