Gregg smiled. “In any case, if you ever need assistance, have Shawn Wilde reach out to me p>
Kailey was about to ask who Shawn Wilde was when Gregg headed toward the entrance. He stopped to speak briefly with the bodyguard who had been following her.
After a short exchange, the guard turned to Kailey and gave a slight nod.
Her breath caught. Gregg — or rather the chairman backing him — had enough reach to sway someone from Lyman’s side.
Kailey remained seated for a while after he left. Eventually, she stood and walked out of the café.
As she passed Shawn, she studied him closely.
When they had put some distance between themselves and the entrance, she asked, “How long have you been working for Lyman p>
His face remained composed, and his tone stayed respectful. “Eight years p>
A soft laugh slipped from her lips. Her clear eyes held his steadily, as if they could see straight through him. “So… are you playing both sides p>

A quiet scoff slipped from Kailey, and she chose silence instead of arguing.
It suddenly made sense why Lyman always knew more than he should — Shawn clearly stood at the center of it. But could Gregg be trusted?
Kailey’s teeth pressed lightly into her lower lip as heavy thoughts filled her eyes.
Later that afternoon, word arrived from Lyman through the housekeeper that he would skip dinner at home. Kailey enjoyed the quiet and took Max for a walk in the yard after eating.

“Aeon Plaza?” Curiosity brightened her expression. “What’s going on there p>
“There’s supposed to be a fireworks display tonight. People are saying it will be beautiful p>
She suspected the invitation carried more than simple fireworks. Even so, she agreed to go — the idea had already stirred her interest.
After changing her clothes, she got into a car with Shawn, followed by another carrying four bodyguards.
City lights drifted past the window while an uneasy feeling crept over her skin, as if unseen eyes tracked every movement. Her gaze flicked toward the rearview mirror, yet nothing unusual appeared.
Aeon Plaza greeted them with a restless sea of people. Strangers brushed past in a constant rush, and nearby musicians filled the air with gentle folk songs that wrapped the night in a soft sadness. For a short while, Kailey lingered near the music before she asked Shawn to leave a donation.
She had barely turned to walk away when excited chatter burst out behind her.

Drawn by instinct, Kailey glanced back toward the commotion — and the moment she spotted the man at the center, her feet refused to move.
