Nadine shrugged it off. “Alright, go change. We still have makeup to do p>
Kailey carried the dress into the changing room. She had to admit, the choice was spot on. At first glance, the design looked clean and restrained, yet the waist had a subtle cutout that revealed just enough skin. The hemline fell unevenly, giving it a light, playful edge.
Kailey’s features were already striking, but she usually kept herself muted, even with makeup. This dress drew everything out.
When she stepped back into the room, Nadine immediately launched into praise.
“Aren’t we pressed for time?” Kailey cut in, feeling slightly suffocated by the enthusiasm. “We should finish the makeup before your boss gets annoyed p>

Nadine snapped back to business and set up her tools.
An hour later, the makeup was done. Outside, the car and her security detail were already waiting.
“Mr. Vasquez can’t step away right now,” the driver said respectfully. “He asked that we take you there first p>
Kailey glanced at the second vehicle behind them. She didn’t need to look closely to know the rest of the guards were there. She gave a brief nod and got in.
Just like before, Nadine followed and took the seat beside her.
“Ms. Evans, does this mean you’ve finally accepted Mr. Vasquez?” Nadine asked. “I told you before, no one can resist him — but you didn’t believe me p>
Kailey replied evenly, “Did you resist p>
“I didn’t p>
“Then why didn’t you go after him yourself? Why push him toward someone else instead p>
“I…” Nadine cut herself off, then huffed. “You wouldn’t get it. I really admire him. As long as he’s happy, that’s enough for me p>
Kailey laughed softly and let the topic drop.
It was odd. Nadine didn’t seem much younger than her, yet standing beside her made Kailey feel strangely experienced. Seeing that kind of openness and devotion stirred a faint, unexpected sense of envy.
Before long, the car pulled up at the auction venue.
Nadine stayed behind instead of stepping out. “If you need your makeup touched up, just come back out. I’ll be waiting in the car p>
“Why aren’t you coming in p>
“I won’t. Mr. Vasquez doesn’t like it p>
Kailey didn’t know how to respond to that.
She lifted the hem of her dress and stepped inside. Eyes turned toward her almost immediately. Some people clearly recognized her. Others simply stared, caught off guard by her appearance. Those who didn’t know her whispered among themselves, speculating about which influential family she belonged to — the number of bodyguards around her alone was enough to spark curiosity.
Kailey kept her composure and followed the guards forward.
Because of Lyman’s standing, her seat was right at the front, centered in the first row.
“Please sit here, Ms. Evans,” one of the guards said. “Mr. Vasquez will join you shortly p>
Kailey nodded and took her seat. Another guard handed her a blanket, which she draped loosely over her legs.
