Morning arrived, and Dagmar showed up at the villa earlier than expected. After dropping her off, Lionel prepared to leave right away. “Work is waiting for me at the company. Spend some time talking with Kailey, alright?” A hint of meaning flickered in his eyes, yet he offered Kailey a warm smile when she looked over. “Kailey, I’ll head out now. Watch Dagmar for me p>
Open irritation covered Dagmar’s face, and she didn’t even bother looking at Lionel.
The moment he disappeared, she pushed a box into Kailey’s hands. “Take it. It’s yours p>
Suspicion crept into Kailey’s gaze. “You actually brought a gift for me p>
“Take it or leave it,” said Dagmar, rolling her eyes, making it clear she would not add anything else.
That reaction told Kailey everything she needed to know. She lifted the lid—and the sight inside didn’t surprise her at all. Two uneven ceramic mugs rested there, decorated with clumsy drawings of a couple, clearly handmade.
“Thank you. I really do like them.” A warm smile spread across Kailey’s face.
Embarrassment pushed Dagmar to look away, stiffness creeping into her voice. “I only did this because my dad told me to. It’s not like I wanted to give you anything p>

“Anything is fine,” Dagmar replied, her eyes wandering around the room. “No offense, Kailey, but you’re treating this marriage like a joke. Your husband doesn’t love you at all p>
“And what do you think counts as love?” Kailey handed her a glass of juice. “Being content with what you have is already a gift in life, and chasing more can easily turn into misery p>
Dagmar drank the juice with a frown and stretched back against the couch with a cold smirk. “Do I look like I study philosophy? None of that makes sense to me. If love can’t be seen, then it doesn’t exist p>
