A laugh slipped out of Kailey as tears clung to her lashes. She reached up and lightly tugged at the hair at the back of his head, the simple motion easing something inside her.
“Put me down,” she said.
Instead of listening, he leaned in, trying to steal a kiss. She leaned back to avoid him. “Stop it p>
Before she could finish, a sound came from the doorway. She quickly slid down from his arms.
At nearly the same moment, the door swung open. A tall figure stepped inside, and the atmosphere shifted instantly.

“My wife’s sensitive. If you wanted her here, you could’ve told me. I would’ve brought her myself. There was no need to go behind my back.” Kyson stood with the light from the window falling behind him, outlining his figure and giving him a composed, untouchable air.
Across from him, Lyman remained still, his presence sharp enough to cut through the room without him raising his voice. Sometimes men didn’t need to argue — a single look carried more weight than words.
The air between them tightened. Kailey had the uneasy thought that if she weren’t standing there, fists might have already flown.

“One more thing.” He stopped at the doorway but didn’t look back, his tone turning indifferent. “Kyson, I know you can handle yourself. But with her beside you, the guards downstairs might not make it easy p>
