“It’s me. Why are you still in bed p>
Felicity groaned and turned over, her voice muffled by the covers. “I drank far too much last night. I’m completely done for. Didn’t even show up at work p>
“I figured. Have you eaten? Should I send you some food p>
“No…” Felicity began to respond, but a deep male voice suddenly cut in. “Who’s on the phone p>
The line went silent on both ends.

Kailey and Felicity spoke at the same time, then froze.
Felicity’s tone tightened immediately. “I can’t talk right now. I’m glad you’re okay. We’ll talk later p>
The call disconnected.
Still confused, Kailey handed the phone back to the guard, then caught herself and passed it to Shawn instead.
It was already afternoon. Residents were returning from work, and children had come home from school. Some people walked their dogs, others strolled leisurely, while a few kicked balls around.
Kailey drifted through the neighborhood without purpose, quietly observing.
She had not gone far when she noticed Lyman’s car — a luxury Mercedes-Benz, deep black and immaculate, its emblem radiating quiet authority.
The vehicle pulled over as she watched. Lyman stepped out from the back seat, his long stride immediately drawing glances from passersby.
In his hand was a small mango cake sealed in a clear container, irresistibly inviting.

That was Lyman’s usual way — he never asked whether she wanted something, only where she would have it.
