She had planned to explain her decision to intern in Aslesall, but Ryan had erupted as though he had completely lost his mind. After a moment’s thought, she realized he was probably too occupied with Olivia to have paid any real attention to her life lately. If he had, he would have noticed she hadn’t touched his money in over half a month.
A faint smile touched her lips as she closed Ryan’s chat. The gesture felt no different from quietly closing a door on that chapter of her life.

Felicity sounded puzzled. “Weren’t you two always going back and forth? How did things unravel so suddenly p>
Back and forth? Kailey gave a quiet laugh. “That was never what it looked like. It was a childish attachment from years ago, and I’ve already moved past it.” Ryan would always be her uncle. Walking away now was simply choosing peace and avoiding needless conflict with Olivia.

After hanging up, Kailey glanced at the screen just as the movie approached its final scene. It no longer held her attention. She opened her laptop and turned to her inbox instead, where two separate companies had replied to her resume, both inviting her to interview. After comparing them carefully, her interest settled on a newly established independent brand. Though the company was still growing, the environment seemed far better suited for developing her skills as a designer.
Once she had made her decision, she sent a message to their HR explaining that she needed a few more days before she could travel to Aslesall and asked if the interview date could be moved.
