A guarded look crossed Felicity’s face as she glanced down at the screen—wary, as though she was afraid Kailey might notice something she shouldn’t. She let out a long breath and still didn’t pick up. “This is getting on my nerves. I need to deal with something first. Let’s hang out another day, alright p>
Kailey laughed softly and gave her a gentle push. “If you have something to take care of, go. We’re not running out of time p>
Felicity pulled her into a quick hug, muttering complaints under her breath as she disappeared into the crowd.
Watching her go, Kailey checked the time and thought of Kyson. He would be finishing up soon. He had been especially attentive lately, and the memory of his eager expression the other day made her smile. On impulse, she decided to buy him a cake.

Kailey closed the chat and opened her browser with quiet confidence. A glance at the groceries from the day before helped her settle on a few basic dishes. The plan sounded entirely reasonable in her head, so there was no reason it should go wrong.
With that conviction firmly in place, Kailey set the cake on the dining table, walked into the kitchen as if heading into battle, tied on an apron, raised two fingers at her reflection in the glass cabinet door like a champion, and got to work.
Once everything was laid out in front of her, she froze. What was she actually supposed to do next?
