Over dinner, she kept offering compliments between bites, sounding almost like an employee flattering a supervisor in hopes of a promotion. Her real wish, however, was far simpler—she wanted him to keep cooking for her from now on.
“I know you work without stopping, so I bought you a cake. That’s pretty considerate of me, right?” She lifted the lid with a smile to reveal it.
