Both women turned as Zaria’s tall figure came into view. She pulled out a chair beside Kailey with casual ease, making her allegiance unmistakably clear, and spoke without sugarcoating it. “If I put it politely, you chose to protect yourself. But if I’m being blunt, how is that any different from acting as a pimp p>
“You—” Dana bristled, anger surging, yet she couldn’t find a single word to counter Zaria.
Zaria let out a short laugh. “I’m only stating the facts. Kent and his assistant are already under police control. The only reason you’re still sitting here is that you got lucky. Right now, there isn’t enough evidence to detain you p>
Dana said nothing, her stare locked onto Zaria as though sheer intensity might scorch straight through her. Everything Zaria had said was true. So what did that change? The police demanded proof, and those two idiots had failed to get away. How exactly was any of that her responsibility?

The words stunned Dana into silence. Only then did she remember she still had to answer to Kyson.
With a trace of amusement in her eyes, Zaria glanced at her before taking Kailey’s hand, clearly ready to leave.
“Hold on—” Dana rose to her feet, torn between stopping them and preserving her pride. After a long pause, she finally blurted out, her face burning, “I’m resigning from the company. Can’t you just let this go p>
Kailey was puzzled by Dana’s insistence on being forgiven. After all, she and Zaria were hardly people of consequence in Dana’s world. Still, when Dana mentioned she was planning to resign, a flicker of surprise crossed Kailey’s face.
After a brief pause, she said, “This isn’t about forgiveness. You and I don’t matter to each other at all p>
With that, Kailey didn’t stay another second. She tightened her grip on Zaria’s hand, and the two of them walked out of the café.
As they left, Zaria kept casting subtle glances in Kailey’s direction, making her increasingly self-conscious. Kailey finally let go of her hand and said, “Zaria, if you want to ask something, just say it. Don’t keep staring at me like that p>
Zaria let out a relieved sigh. “It’s nothing. I just realized all my worrying was unnecessary.” She had rushed over convinced that Dana would corner and pressure Kailey. In the end, all that concern had been for nothing. “You’re stronger than I gave you credit for,” she added.
