Kyson had never experienced anything quite like this, or perhaps he had simply never let himself dream it could happen. He started the car, sneaking another glance at Kailey, anticipation quietly bubbling inside him.

Kyson’s eyes never left her — the cake itself hardly mattered. He hadn’t cared much for things before, but now there were plenty he found himself enjoying. Without a word, he parted his lips, reaching up to steady her hand as she fed him the bite.
Kailey arched an eyebrow, watching him enjoy the treat, feeling oddly proud of the moment. A happy grin spread across her face.
The sweet flavor lingered on his tongue, and Kyson’s smile deepened. “Thank you for the cake,” he said softly.
Something about that simple proposal seemed to have shifted the air between them. A subtle, sweet tension now quietly linked them together.
By the time they returned home, only half the little cake remained. Kailey carried the box as she climbed out, waiting for Kyson to join her before asking, “Do you want another bite?” He wanted to say yes, but his body answered first, and he shook his head.
Kailey smiled. “Alright, then I’ll finish it.” She motioned for Kyson to unlock the door and followed behind him, savoring another spoonful as she walked, her sigh soft and satisfied.
Kyson’s eyes landed on her spoon for a moment, his Adam’s apple shifting as he watched. “What’s the matter?” Noticing nothing out of the ordinary, Kailey finished chewing and swallowed. “Do you want some more?” She offered the cake again, holding it out invitingly.

The question caught Kailey off guard. As a child, she had dreamed of all sorts of weddings, inspired by fairy tales, television, and elegant ceremonies. But now that it was real, her mind felt strangely empty, and she even wondered if a formal wedding was necessary at all.
“I don’t really have any preferences,” Kailey admitted, biting her lip. “Whatever you decide is fine with me.” She figured that, since the Blake family was both prominent and traditional, the preparations would likely be complicated anyway. It seemed easier to go along with their plans and simply play her part.
