Kyson smiled quietly to himself. If she were awake, she would never have let herself be this vulnerable with him. He ran his tongue over his teeth, eyes lowered, as he carefully buckled her seatbelt, then stepped out, walked around the car, and got behind the wheel.
Forty minutes later, they arrived home.
Moving with care, Kyson carried Kailey upstairs and placed her softly onto the bed. Her hair had tangled around her neck, and even in her sleep it must have tickled her — she reached up to scratch at it, shifted, and fell back under. Kyson watched it all, letting out a quiet sigh, amusement flickering across his face.
He tossed his suit jacket onto the sofa and rolled up his sleeves as he made his way to the bathroom. It was his first time taking care of a woman — wiping away her makeup, washing her hands and feet — and he handled everything with surprising tenderness, careful not to disturb her sleep. Once he finished, he noticed she was still in her rumpled clothes.
Should he change her into pajamas? No. Knowing her, if she woke up in different clothes, she would read far too much into it and feel embarrassed for days. It was better not to risk it.
Kyson smiled to himself, a little ruefully, and stood at her bedside a while longer. Only when he heard a car pull up outside did he finally turn off the lamp and step out.
