Kyson let out a low laugh. With practiced ease, he unlocked the door, pushed it open with his shoulder, and carried her inside, laying her carefully on the bed. He gently brushed the loose strands from her face. “Stay here for a moment. I’ll get some water so you can clean up p>
Kailey blinked slowly, her cheeks flushed like ripened fruit beneath the light. “Then come back quickly,” she murmured.
“I will.” He adjusted the pillow beneath her head and went to the bathroom.
Three minutes later, when he returned with a basin of water, he froze.
Kailey was still sitting cross-legged on the bed, but her clothes were nowhere to be seen. Her skin was smooth, hair spilling over her shoulders. Paired with those hazy, unguarded eyes, she radiated a quiet, dangerous pull.
Heat surged through Kyson’s chest. His gaze darkened as he swallowed instinctively.

Truthfully, this was the first time Kailey had ever been this intoxicated — and rather than softening him, it only made Kyson more determined. Alcohol was now officially banned for her.
By the time he guided her through washing up and settling down, it was nearly midnight.
Only then did the alcohol fully take hold. She kicked the blanket away again and again. The temperature was comfortable enough without it, but for Kyson, the sight was pure torment. Her long legs peeked out, the nightdress worn loosely, revealing far more than was good for his peace of mind.
Kyson abruptly stood up, eyes tinged red, and turned away.
“Kailey, sleep,” he said hoarsely.
She tilted her head up at him, confused by his sudden distance. Her eyes were wide and clear, like a startled fawn. After staring at him for a long moment, she nodded. “Okay.” Then she closed her eyes and drifted off for real.
Kyson watched her sleeping face for a long while, pressing his tongue against his cheek before letting out a quiet laugh.
After putting away the water and towel, adjusting the room temperature, and changing into casual clothes, he went back downstairs.
