Kailey shut her eyes after she proposed, as if waiting for a final verdict.
The silence pressed down on her.
Should she say something else? Maybe she should have listened to Carlos and slipped the ring into his pocket with a note. At least that would have spared her this agonizing wait.
Each second stretched painfully long.
Then she heard him let out a slow breath.
Kyson opened the box fully. Inside lay two rings — one carrying a star design, the other a moon. Those shapes could easily look too delicate on a man’s hand, so she had widened the band and added subtle detailing along the sides to balance it.
He studied them in silence before picking one up. “Kailey p>
“What? What is it?” She jolted upright like a student being called on unexpectedly.
Kyson’s tongue brushed lightly against his teeth as he let out a low laugh. “You look nervous p>
She didn’t know how to respond.
“You’re brilliant at many things. But proposing is supposed to be my responsibility p>

Before she could react, he took her hand. His fingers were firm and careful as he slid the ring onto her finger.

She didn’t know how other people handled moments like this, but she felt completely overwhelmed.
She glanced down at her hand, then hurriedly grabbed the box and took out the other ring. “If it’s the best gift, then you should wear yours too p>
Putting a ring on a man’s hand was harder than she expected. She fumbled slightly, her face growing hotter as she adjusted it and finally pushed it into place.
She glanced around even though no one was watching. “Let’s head home early. Tomorrow, we’ll go register p>
One of his brows lifted, and a faint smile curved at his lips. “Head home and sleep together p>
Kailey’s breathing faltered for a brief second as the image flashed through her mind. “In your dreams,” she murmured.
Still, when they married, they would have to share a room. She quickly covered her face and shook her head, trying to push the thought away. “Let’s go. If we stay any longer, we’ll wake Karol p>
Kyson watched her walk ahead, amusement and warmth lingering quietly in his eyes.
The night was clear. Stars were scattered across the sky, and the horizon still held faint traces of sunset — deep blue blending into soft yellow, giving the city an unexpected warmth.
Music played softly inside the car. Kailey sat in the passenger seat, absentmindedly turning the ring on her finger as she stared out the window.
None of it felt real. She was going to get married soon.
