Kailey and Zaria were both delighted, and seeing that the mountain wasn’t far, they decided to set off right away. The design team was mostly made up of women, while the men usually handled the technical side of things — so they picked two people to go with them.
Before leaving, Kailey messaged Kyson, explaining what she was doing and where she was going, and promising she’d be back in time for dinner with his friends.

“I let him know so he wouldn’t worry, and to avoid getting into real trouble.” She thought about how she used to act and shook her head. “But sometimes, being too reasonable and well-behaved isn’t such a good thing p>
Zaria considered it and nodded. “Alright, then let me put it another way — faithful and reliable. How’s that p>

Their vehicle soon pulled up to the mountain entrance, where the road narrowed and the streetlights disappeared. Kailey and Zaria stepped out to check their surroundings — then jumped back in surprise when a figure suddenly appeared up ahead.

Quentin smiled easily and lifted the hiking pole in his hand. “When you called, I was already nearby. I didn’t have anything urgent to do, so I figured I might as well come along p>
He carried a large hiking backpack and wore a windbreaker with sturdy hiking boots. From head to toe, he looked like someone who spent a great deal of time outdoors.
Kailey exchanged a quick look with Zaria before speaking up. “That’s very kind of you, Mr. Shaw. We don’t have much experience with this, so having you lead the way will definitely help p>
“Exactly,” Zaria added quickly. “We were just trying to figure out where to start p>
Quentin glanced at Kailey, and something unfamiliar flickered briefly in his eyes, as if an old memory had surfaced. He recovered almost immediately and shifted his attention to the others behind them.
“The road ahead is rough, and driving any farther won’t be easy. Let’s park here. I’ll take you down a trail from this point p>
With someone experienced taking charge, no one objected. Once the cars were parked, they adjusted their backpacks and followed Quentin up the mountain.
Zaria and Kailey stayed near the back, lowering their voices once the others were far enough ahead. Zaria leaned closer and whispered, “Did you see how he looked at you earlier p>

Zaria stopped walking and grabbed Kailey’s arm, forcing her to turn around. Her voice dropped even lower. “Listen to me. I might not have much experience with relationships, but I’m good at reading people. He definitely has feelings for you. If nothing unexpected happens, he’ll probably start reaching out more once we get back. You should be careful p>
