Drawing in a measured breath, Kyson tapped his own cheek as a silent suggestion.
“Oh, right.” Suppressing a grin, Kailey leaned across the console and planted a quick kiss on his cheek. After stepping out, she bent slightly toward the open window and gave him a small wave. “No need to come back for me tonight. I’ll head home on my own. Drive carefully p>
Rather than rushing off, she stood there until his car turned the corner and disappeared from sight. Only then did she head inside.

Quentin adjusted his glasses before standing with a polite nod. “Your team leader asked me to stop by. I’ve brought two rare gems — extremely difficult to source. He thought you might want to take a look p>
Recently, Kailey had developed a genuine appreciation for gems. She understood better than anyone that true rarity never came cheap.
“That sounds perfect,” she replied with interest. “Please let us know your price. If it’s within reason, we’d truly appreciate the opportunity p>
“Payment isn’t what I’m after.” A faint light flickered in his eyes as he spoke. “There is something else I’d like in return. I hope you will agree to one condition p>
A faint crease formed between Kailey’s brows. She didn’t think she and Quentin were close enough for this kind of favor. Even if gratitude was involved, that obligation belonged to the company, not to her as an individual.
Sensing her pause, Quentin showed no sign of irritation. He kept his tone mild. “Perhaps you could hear me out before deciding. In a few days, a relative’s child will be coming back to the country. I’m tied up with work and won’t be available. Would you mind picking the child up and looking after him for a short time p>

“What were you expecting?” Quentin chuckled. “Given the nature of my work, I don’t have many close friends. There are even fewer people I’d feel comfortable asking for something like this p>
She didn’t back down. “If I’m not mistaken, this is only our third meeting p>
To her, that still made them strangers. Choosing to trust someone barely known over longtime acquaintances didn’t add up.
Quentin lowered his eyes with a faint smile. Sunlight hit his glasses and hid whatever lay behind them. “That’s true. But you don’t have any reason to cause trouble either, do you p>
His logic boxed Kailey in, yet something else clicked in her mind. Whatever Quentin’s true goal was, he would have found a way to pull her into it regardless. If it wasn’t this request, it would have been another. Since he was determined to involve her anyway, why not play along and see what he actually wanted?
