He said nothing more. He simply led Kailey toward the fitting room.
Olivia remained where she stood, staring after them, her breathing uneven.
Why was Kailey always so lucky? Every man seemed drawn to her. She told herself she would wait and see how long that confidence lasted.
Inside the fitting room, Kailey’s hand still felt cold.

Kailey gave a small shake of her head. She couldn’t put into words what was weighing on her. It felt as if no matter where she went, Ryan and Olivia would always circle back into her life.
When she once cared for Ryan, he had refused to accept it. Now that she had chosen a different path, he still wouldn’t step aside. Being raised by him had left her with a sense of obligation that pressed heavily on her chest — endless and impossible to resolve.
How was she supposed to repay something like that? She had no answer.
Kyson saw the change in her expression. He pulled her into his arms without another word. As soon as she leaned against him, warmth passed between them, and the chill in her body slowly faded.
“Don’t carry this as a debt. Ryan choosing to raise you wasn’t wrong. Treating you well wasn’t wrong either. But no relationship is one-sided. He took care of you, and you stood by him too. That counts for something.” His voice stayed low and steady, and it eased the tightness in her chest.

Irene finished her call and walked back just as Kailey quickly guided Kyson away. A thought had crossed her mind — it might be better if he didn’t see her in the dress until the wedding day. She wanted him to be surprised.
After the fitting, Kyson headed back to the company while Kailey returned home with Irene.

Kailey hesitated for a moment and looked down. “Any time works for me.” Most of the company’s issues had already been handled, and since Ryan was staying in Aslesall, visiting the Owens shouldn’t cause any complications.
