On the screen, Felicity’s face was covered with a mask, leaving only her eyes visible.
Kailey leaned back on the couch. “That’s on me. But you haven’t called either. What have you been doing lately p>
“I —” Felicity began, then hesitated. Her gaze shifted for a moment. “Work’s been nonstop. You know how it is. It feels like I haven’t had a break. But I’m free tomorrow and the day after. Let’s have dinner together p>
Kailey nodded. “Tomorrow won’t work. The day after is fine p>
“Why not tomorrow p>
“I’m going with my uncle to look at the property my mom left me p>

Felicity paused, then said, “Right, your mom left you something. It’s good to at least see what it is. Go check it out p>
They continued talking about small things. Then the screen suddenly tilted, and a man’s voice came from off camera. “Felicity, who are you talking to p>
“Ah!” Felicity cried out, and the call ended at once.
Kailey stared at the screen in confusion. That had sounded like a man. Was Felicity seeing someone?
After thinking it over, she decided it wasn’t strange. She herself was married — Felicity having a boyfriend was perfectly normal. Kailey pushed the thought aside. Since she would be heading up the mountain tomorrow, she pulled out her backpack and began packing what she might need.
It was close to eleven when Kyson returned. The bedroom lights were off and Kailey was already asleep. The curtains hadn’t been drawn, and soft light from outside fell across her face. In the stillness of the room, her features looked even more striking.
He stepped closer and noticed one of her hands resting outside the blanket. He carefully tucked it back under the quilt before leaving the room.
Downstairs, he poured himself a drink and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window in the living room. The night stretched endlessly beyond the glass. Shadows gathered in the corners, heavy and deep.
He took a slow sip and felt the burn slide down his throat.
Kailey. Quentin. What relationship could exist between them?
Benny’s return to the country hadn’t happened by chance. Earlier, Kyson had tried to get answers out of him. Benny had acted clueless and said nothing at all.
He emptied the rest of the whiskey in a single swallow, placed the glass aside, and dialed Devin. “Look into Quentin and Benny p>
Devin sounded confused. “Quentin’s been public since the day he entered the field. He’s a known pigment expert — people follow everything he does. What’s left to dig into p>
“Then check what he was doing before he entered the industry,” Kyson said sharply.

The living room remained dark, only the faint outline of Kyson’s face visible as he continued. “Also find out what ties Benny has to Quentin. Are they actually brothers? And I want everything about Benny’s life overseas before he turned eighteen. Don’t miss anything p>
