Only a mild, polite smile appeared on Kailey’s face before she quietly took the seat beside Kyson.
Throughout the exchange, his gaze had never once left her. Only after she settled did he lower his voice and ask, “Really?” A brief pause passed before she understood he was questioning the drunk itself.
“What else could it have been?” she answered smoothly, her tone light, as if nothing at all were out of place.
Silence stretched between them as Kyson studied her face, his features impossible to read.
Another soft click echoed from the doorway as it swung open, and a tall silhouette strode inside. Without more than the faintest flicker of attention, Kailey lifted her glass and took an unhurried sip, her posture serene and flawlessly controlled.
Warm fingers threaded through hers as Kyson intertwined their hands, his thumb brushing slow circles over her knuckles while his gaze remained fixed on her.
Lyman rotated the stem of his wineglass idly, his thoughts clearly wandering somewhere distant.

No one dared to intervene as Lyman and Kyson drank one glass after another.
Restlessness finally pushed Kailey to her feet. Her fingers tightened around Kyson’s wrist, and she pulled him up as well, catching the telltale flush in his eyes from too many drinks. Her voice came out hoarse and strained. “We’re going home p>
Without a single objection, he allowed her to guide him toward the door. No one stopped them.
