He slid his headphones on and walked out with careless ease.
Kailey stood and watched him swagger toward the courtyard wall. He planted his hands, lifted himself, and moved with quick, practiced precision until he cleared the top. A heartbeat later, his figure vanished beyond the villa.
She had to admit — he had picked the one corner untouched by surveillance.
Slowly, Kailey pulled the folded note from her pocket. A phone number sprawled across it in uneven, graceless lines. The sight of it stirred a strange feeling in her chest.

A faint crease appeared between Kailey’s brows. She set the hoe aside and followed the guard.
Soon, the silhouette of a woman came into view. Today, Candice was dressed casually, her designer glasses adding a touch of flair.

She didn’t believe Candice had any good intentions, but since Candice was here and she had nothing better to do, she might as well hear her out.
The servant brewed a pot of coffee and set up a parasol beneath a tree. After changing her clothes, Kailey headed downstairs — only to find Max barking incessantly at Candice.
“Go away! You stupid dog!” Candice snapped.
“Max.” A gentle sound from Kailey, and the dog scampered straight to her without hesitation.

“Miss Lawson, if you came here to see me, you should expect a few insults,” Kailey said with a calm smile. After all, the last time Candice came, she got a beating. Compared to that, a few cruel remarks barely mattered.
“You’ve grown bold.” Bitterness edged Candice’s voice. “Lyman hiding you here really does shield you.” Otherwise, she would make sure Kailey suffered.
