She turned sharply, her heels striking the floor in rapid succession. This was the first time she had ever confronted her son like this. Now that she had summoned the courage, she could not allow herself to hesitate — or she would lose it entirely.

With that, Irene walked out.
In her eyes, there had to be some misunderstanding between Kailey and him. Once it was cleared up, everything would surely return to normal.
Early that morning, Kailey received a call from Irene. She cheerfully remarked on the beautiful weather and suggested going camping somewhere nearby.

Just then, Irene’s car pulled in.
Kailey walked over, opened the door for her, and greeted her warmly.
“What perfect timing,” Irene said with a bright smile, linking arms with Kailey like an old friend. “Everything’s already arranged. We can head straight in p>
They were on the outskirts of the city. Early spring had just begun to touch the trees with color, and the gentle sunlight made the whole place feel alive and unhurried.
As they chatted and walked inside, someone approached them — not campsite staff, judging by her appearance, but rather an employee from a company. Kailey’s heart skipped. Her breathing faltered.

“Oh, I see,” Irene replied casually. Then she turned slightly and gestured to the woman beside her. “Did you hear that? If anything hasn’t arrived yet, make sure it gets here quickly p>
The hint was obvious. The woman caught on at once, nodded eagerly, and hurried away.
