Other than the usual stack of work notifications, his phone was flooded with more than two hundred unread messages from a single group chat, with his name repeatedly tagged throughout. He hadn’t even tapped into the chat when a fresh message from Lambert appeared at the top.

An eye roll hovered at the edge of his patience. He stretched his fingers once, then began typing with deliberate ease.
“Sorry. I was sleeping with my wife in my arms last night. Now they’re quite numb p>
After completing her morning routine, Kailey changed and stepped back out into the room. Across the bed, Kyson lay with one arm tucked behind his head, eyes shut as if lost in sleep.
Her gaze lingered on his handsome features, and a soft smile slowly curved her lips. This actually felt kind of nice.

Light-hearted and buoyant, she slipped out of the bedroom on silent toes and headed downstairs.
In the kitchen, Karol busied herself with breakfast, the faint clatter of utensils blending with gentle music drifting through the living room. Irene, dressed in workout gear, held a difficult yoga pose on her mat.
Hearing approaching footsteps, Irene glanced over her shoulder while still balancing, her body wavering dangerously for a split second.
“Be careful!” Kailey’s pulse jolted in alarm — yet before she could dart forward, Irene steadied herself and eased gracefully back onto the mat.

Casual cheer colored Irene’s reply. “Morning.” She slid her arm through Kailey’s, guided her toward the couch, and lowered her voice, clearly itching to gossip. “So — what exactly happened last night p>
Caught off guard by that expectant look, Kailey instantly grasped the implication and answered with an embarrassed smile. “Nothing unusual p>
Perceptive from long experience, Irene read the truth straight from Kailey’s flustered expression and knew nothing noteworthy had occurred. Leaning in until their shoulders nearly touched, she murmured in a hushed voice, “Here’s a little secret — I promise Kyson will end up doing whatever you ask p>
Kyson made his way downstairs and found the dining room buzzing with warmth and laughter. Kailey and Irene sat side by side, sharing breakfast and giggling together.
“Kyson was a real handful at three years old,” Irene said. “His grandfather would set up the table out in the yard. One day, this little troublemaker climbed up and peed straight into the cup p>
Kailey’s eyes widened in shock. “Did his grandpa actually drink it p>
“Almost!” Irene burst out laughing. “The smell was so strong, there was no way to miss it p>
Kailey bit back a laugh and popped another piece of toast into her mouth.
After chatting so much that her throat went dry, Irene picked up her glass of milk, ready for a sip — but before she could, a hand reached over her shoulder and took the glass away.
