She forced a smile but said nothing. Staring at the empty doorway with her hands clenched tight at her sides, she stood there for a moment before turning and heading upstairs.
Benny watched her retreat, interest mixed with quiet ridicule in his eyes. He lowered his gaze to his phone and looked at two photos he had just taken. In them, the woman faced the man with clear longing, like someone caught up in an unbalanced chase. The man’s expression stayed cold, yet his posture wasn’t completely rejecting.
Benny wondered how Kailey would react if she saw them. A strange glint flashed through his eyes. In the end, he locked the phone and didn’t send anything.
By the time Kyson returned home, dinner was already over. Karol had taken the dog out, leaving Kailey by herself.
