Once she finished breakfast, she picked up her bag and walked out.

Kailey glanced toward the other vehicle parked nearby. Three men stood beside it at a distance, keeping watch.
“Let’s go to the park.” She looked away and stepped into the car.
The park wasn’t busy. A few older people strolled with their grandchildren, but beyond that, the paths were quiet. The deeper they walked, the fewer people remained.
Shawn slowed his steps. “Ms. Evans, there’s nothing further ahead. Perhaps we should head back p>
That was exactly why she had chosen it. She stopped and turned to face him.
“Shawn.” Her voice was calm but steady.

Shawn’s composure cracked for a moment. He turned his head, clearly uncomfortable. “This isn’t appropriate p>
“Why? You once said you only carry out your duties and don’t involve yourself in anything beyond that.” Kailey kept her voice even, though her emotions threatened to rise. “I’m willing to pay you. I only ask for two things: find the truth, and keep it from anyone who shouldn’t know p>
She continued before he could refuse. “I won’t make this difficult for you. What I’m asking has nothing to do with Lyman p>
Shawn did not answer right away.
The heaviness on his face and the hesitation in his eyes made it clear that an intense internal struggle was unfolding behind his composure.
After a long moment, the three bodyguards standing farther back noticed how long the two had remained motionless and began walking over, intending to check if something was wrong.
At last, Kailey heard the response she had been waiting for.

Her features relaxed slightly. She leaned closer and lowered her voice. “I need information on Merritt’s younger brother — what he was involved in before, what he’s doing now, and most importantly, where he was three months ago p>
Shawn weighed it briefly, then nodded. “Understood. Give me two days p>
No sooner had he finished speaking than the other bodyguards arrived. “Is everything okay p>
Kailey and Shawn exchanged a quick glance. Kailey smiled easily. “Nothing’s wrong. The view here is nice, so we were taking it in. But now that you’ve all come over, the atmosphere is completely ruined. Let’s go p>
The three bodyguards looked at one another, visibly confused. They were ruining the atmosphere? In what way?
The corner of Shawn’s mouth twitched faintly. “Do as she says,” he said, his voice calm and even.
